In the latest NCFR member spotlight...

• Kristy Y. Shih, Ph.D., has started a new position as associate professor of human development at California State University, Long Beach. Previously, she was an assistant professor of human development and family studies at Central Michigan University. Dr. Shih received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Riverside.
  
  Using a qualitative in-depth interview method, her current project examines the phenomenon of adult former “parachute kids” and their parents from Taiwan. Dr. Shih has been an active leader at NCFR, serving as a secretary and treasurer of the Ethnic Minorities Section, co-chair of the Asian American Families Focus Group, and a member of the Inclusion and Diversity Committee. She is the recipient of two NCFR awards: the Ruth Jewson Award for the Best Family Studies Dissertation Proposal (2010) and the John L. and Harriette P. McAdoo Dissertation Award.

  Rachel Arocho, Ph.D., recently began a postdoctoral scholar position at the Carolina Population Center at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She  received her Ph.D. in human development and Family Science from Ohio State University, and was a member of the Ohio Council of Family Relations Advisory Board. Dr. Arocho approaches the study of Family Science through an interdisciplinary lens including basic and applied research, intervention and prevention, demography, and the science of teaching and learning. She is the recipient of two NCFR awards: the Affiliate Councils President-for-a-Day Award, and the NCFR Student Award.
