SRCD Releases Brief on the Health Insurance Needs of Parents and Caregivers

The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) has published a brief on the importance of meeting the health care needs of parents and caregivers so they are better equipped to support their children. According to cited research, if just one uninsured family member faces high medical costs or untreated conditions, the resulting stress can harm a child's well-being throughout their life.

Further, a lack of health insurance has been associated with limited access to needed care, poorer health outcomes, and financial instability all of which can inhibit children’s healthy development. While millions of Americans have gained health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), recent reversal of health insurance growth threatens children’s health and development.
