United Nations' Events on Families Prominently Feature NCFR Members

Once a month, NCFR will round up resources from the United Nations (U.N.) and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relevant to family research.

Each year, U.N. Headquarters in New York observes the International Day of Families with a special program. The 2018 theme is “Families and Inclusive Societies.” This year's observance on Tuesday, May 15 is open to the public, and will be live streamed from 1:15–2:30 p.m. ET as part of a two-day Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Family Policies for Inclusive Societies. The program prominently features three NCFR members (pictured left to right):

  • Yan Ruth Xia, Ph.D., CFLE, was invited to moderate an international panel of experts during the observance and will give a presentation during a closed EGM session on inclusive urbanization in China.

These three exemplary scholars are counted among the most distinguished family experts in the international community. NCFR is especially proud to have them as members who have been active in planning programs for our annual conference. Dr. Trask is the NCFR 2018 conference program chair, and previously served as chair of the Advancing Family Science Section. Dr. Robila is the current chair of the International Section. Dr. Xia has served two terms as the chair of the International Section, and is the current past chair. Drs. Trask and Robila are NCFR’s co-representatives to the U.N.
