The child development and family studies (CDFS) major at University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) is the newest program to meet the criteria for the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) credential.

“Accomplishing this distinguished certification is another great milestone for the School of Human Services, and particularly for the students in the CDFS program,” said Dean Constance Lacy, Ph.D., LCSW. She added that the CFLE credential demonstrates that UNT Dallas students "experience a well-developed curriculum that aligns with the national standards." 

Dr. Lacy congratulated NCFR members Nedra Y. Washington, Ph.D., CFLE, and Shelia E. Lumar, Ph.D., CFLE, "for their dedicated efforts to move the CDFS program forward with this credential.”

Programs from Bridgewater College and Wilmington University have also recently met the CFLE credential. In July, NCFR reported that seven programs were recently renewed as a CFLE-approved program for the next five years.

More than 130 degree programs at university and colleges throughout the United States and Canada have been CFLE-approved by NCFR.

NCFR, which administers the CFLE credential, recognizes regionally accredited schools offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs with course work that includes content covering the 10 Family Life Education content areas required for approval as a provisional CFLE. NCFR approval allows graduates of these programs the opportunity to apply for provisional CFLE certification without taking the CFLE exam.
