Adler University’s Couple and Family Therapy Department is excited to announce that we are looking for a Core Faculty position to start in fall 2023. This position would also have administrative responsibilities as the Program Director for our current Certificate in Sex Therapy. The department has a COAMFTE-accredited MA in Couple and Family Therapy (MCFT), a COAMFTE-accredited PhD in Couple and Family Therapy (CFTD), and a Certificate Sex Therapy (CST; we are approved Organization Provider II with AASECT). Adler University, a leader in social justice, is conveniently located in the downtown area of the Chicago Loop. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience.

This position is a core faculty full-time 12-month salaried position with contract and reports directly to the Department Chair. This core faculty position is partially administrative for our new and fast-growing Certificate in Sex Therapy with included roles and responsibilities as well as opportunity to continue to grow and develop the offering of sexology within the department and across the university. Instruction will be primarily in the Certificate in Sex Therapy program with additional instruction and supervision responsibilities in the MA and PhD in CFT as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Administrative responsibilities for the Certificate in Sex Therapy includes:

Renewal of approval with AASECT
Oversight, maintenance, and updating of AASECT curriculum
Working with Marketing to promote the Certificate in Sex Therapy
Working with Admissions and applicants for the Certificate in Sex Therapy
Advising Certificate in Sex Therapy students
Monitor student progress and facilitate student issues and concerns
Connect with and support alumni (especially in certification application)
Securing adjunct instructors and course scheduling with the Department Chair
Supervising and evaluating instructors
Facilitate program improvement including the Advisory Board
Partner with Student Affairs for orientation
Attendance to AASECT Annual Conference
Develop and lead opportunities for growth and expansion of Sex Therapy within the department and university.
Instruction in the Certificate of Sex Therapy
Supervision through practicum seminar courses in either the MA or PhD programs
Teaching courses in the MA and PhD programs
Participation in faculty governance (service) including Faculty Council and a faculty committee
Chairs and serves as committee member on dissertations in the PhD program (exemption in the first year)
Reviews Doctoral Qualifying Exams
Serves as dissertation chair and committee member
Participates in recruitment and admissions events for the MA and PhD including interview activities for the department
Provides service to the university and the field through state, regional, and national associations
Pursues a scholarly agenda including presentations and publications
Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair

Additional Duties/ Skills:

Participation in faculty and department governance occurs on Tuesdays. Course in the Certificate in Sex Therapy program are hybrid with weekly synchronous Zoom class meetings and one weekend (Friday-Sunday) residency. CFT MA and PhD courses including practicum seminars are offered between 9-4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with some exceptions depending on need and projected growth of the department. Elective courses are offered on Fridays and sometimes weekends as scheduled by the instructor. Courses are offered in fall, spring, and summer semesters. Summer semester is divided into two terms with summer 1 concluding before July 4th and only supervision in the MA program (i.e., practicum seminars) and Sex Therapy courses running through July and August in summer 2.

Work Environment (Physical Demands):  The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Certification as a Sex Therapist (AASECT) or eligibility within the first year
Certification as a Sex Therapist Supervisor (AASECT) or eligibility within the first two years
Meets the requirements to lead a SAR or eligibility within the first year
Earned doctoral degree from a COAMFTE-accredited Couple/Marriage/Medical Family Therapy program (ABD will be considered) OR a master’s from a COAMFTE-accredited program and a PhD in Sexology or related field 

AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation or proof of eligibility (i.e., Supervisor Candidate status, with plans for completion within the first year of employment)
A current Illinois LMFT license (or demonstration of license ability within the first year of employment)
Academic administrative/leadership experience is a plus
