ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT
POSITION AVAILABILITY: The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate rank in health and development across the lifespan (e.g., aging, disparities, equity, health promotion, social determinants of health) to begin August 16, 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking candidates whose productive program of research pertinent to health and development across the lifespan. Possible areas of expertise include but are not limited to: social determinants of health, successful aging, health policy, lifespan or life course perspectives, biomarkers of aging, and cross-culture or cross-country international comparative perspectives on aging. Successful candidates are expected to maintain a productive, externally funded program of research in their area of focus, and responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate instruction and service assignments. Applicants at the associate rank must show evidence of an active and externally funded program of research. Housed in an R1 institution, the HDFS department has a value for both basic and applied research, as well as both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and expects candidates to demonstrate evidence of advanced research methods training and experience. Experience working with large data sources would be an additional strength. The department is also strongly interested in hiring faculty who have demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion through lived experience, teaching proficiencies, and/or research interests.
THE DEPARTMENT: The HDFS Department includes 34 faculty members (19 full-time, tenure-track), 300 undergraduates, and 50 graduate students and offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. It also administers the AU Early Learning Center; the Harris Early Learning Center in Birmingham, AL; and the AU Marriage and Family Therapy Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for the health and development position must possess a Ph.D. in HDFS or a closely related discipline at the time of employment. The candidate must be fluent in English and must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. The successful candidate for this position must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
