The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (https://hdfs.illinois.edu/) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (http://illinois.edu/) is searching for an outstanding candidate for a nine-month, non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Specialized Faculty – Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor. This non-tenure-track position is an annually renewable contract with a promotion pathway; the University of Illinois supports promotion for teaching professors (see policies #25-26 at https://provost.illinois.edu/policies/provosts-communications/).

We seek a colleague who wants to focus their career on rigorous and innovative teaching. The ideal candidate can teach broadly across our existing undergraduate curriculum, which includes developmental, family, and applied courses. We are also open to new courses and growing our online offerings. The promotion trajectory in this position emphasizes the scholarship of teaching, so the ideal candidate will actively engage in the scholarship of teaching through publications, presentations, invited talks, or other related activities. Furthermore, we seek a colleague who shares our commitment to antiracism and can help us sustain and grow a diverse, inclusive, equitable, and accessible scholarly community. Linguistic and cultural diversity competencies are highly desired.

Job Summary
Responsibilities include teaching six courses per academic year (3/3), primarily at the undergraduate level, although graduate opportunities may arise. Course development and academic advising may substitute some of the course teaching load. This position may assist the Undergraduate Adviser with recruitment activities. Engaging in the scholarship of teaching, and disseminating that knowledge, is an expected part of the promotion pathway. This is an onsite, on campus position (not remote).

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies or a related field and demonstrated excellence in college or university-level teaching with diverse students. Candidates must have the ability and interest to assist with online curricular development and engage in the scholarship of teaching through publications, presentations, invited talks, or other related activities.

This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/16/2023. Salary range is $70,000 to $80,000.
