Lecturer (Family Studies)
The Department of Sociology (http://soci.ubc.ca/) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver campus invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Family Studies, with an anticipated start date of either July 1, 2018 or September 1, 2018.
We expect to fill this position for a three-year term (which entails a probationary first year). Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track), renewable for successive terms, subject to availability of funding and demonstration of excellence in teaching, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill service duties as assigned by the Head and to teach undergraduate courses that are part of the Family Studies minor. Teaching will be assigned based on the needs of the Department and the responsibilities for this position will typically include sections of two or more of the following courses: Family Studies 210: Family Context of Human Development, Family Studies 312: Parent-child Relationships, Family Studies 314: Relationship Development, Sociology 200: Sociology of Family and Sociology 220: Diversity in Family Forms.
We seek applicants with a PhD in Family Studies, Sociology or a cognate discipline, but we will also consider those who have completed the requirements for the PhD degree by the position start date. We are seeking to engage exceptional teachers who have experience teaching undergraduate courses in Family Studies. We have a particular interest in applicants with strong commitments and demonstrated potential to achieving excellence in teaching and academic supervision of undergraduate students. The teaching load for the position will be 24 credits per year, distributed typically as a 3/3 course load in the Winter session and 2 courses in the Summer. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an excellent record of teaching and service.
This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
