Chair, Department of Human Services
Eastern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, Chairperson for the Department of Human Services to begin July 1, 2025 (academic rank to be determined based on qualifications). Under the direction of the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, the Chairperson serves as the chief administrative and academic officer of the department with primary responsibility for the leadership, supervision, coordination, and administration of programs and activities of the department in a shared governance environment.
The Department of Human Services offers a Bachelor of Science Degree with online and face to face degree programs and four minors (Aging Studies, Early Childhood Program Administration, Financial Literacy, and Human Services).
Primary Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
* Develop, review, and lead the implementation of the department's mission
* Provide leadership on curriculum, instruction, and academic advising
* Promote diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence among faculty, staff, and students in the
department
* Facilitate communications among department, college, university, community, and alumni
stakeholders
* Recruit, make recommendations for hiring, supervise, and evaluate high quality faculty
and staff
* Encourage professional development of faculty
* Facilitate student recruitment and marketing
* Manage financial resources to accomplish the department's mission
* Oversee the administration of departmental scholarship funds
* Teach one course with the department per semester
Qualifications: Required qualifications include a doctorate and a degree in a discipline represented within the Department (e.g., Human Services, Human Development and Family Studies, or Social Work), leadership experience, excellent written and oral communication skills, and evidence of achievement in teaching, research, and service. A successful candidate will demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead the faculty through collegial processes in the Department. Department: The Department of Human Services was adapted from the Family Services program area of the former School of Family and Consumer Sciences in 2018. The department houses a BS and minor in Human Services and face-to-face/online minors in Human Services, Financial Literacy, Early Childhood Program Administration, and Aging Studies. The department also houses the MS in Human Services which offers face- to-face and online classes and the MS in Aging Studies and MS in Aging Studies: Long-term Care. The Aging Studies degrees are interdisciplinary and online.
College: The College of Health and Human Services (www.eiu.edu/chhs) was created in 2018 for health and human services-related discipline areas. In addition to the Department of Human Services (www.eiu.edu/hscl), the college houses Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, and Communication Disorders and Sciences. The mission of CHHS is to foster excellence, with a student-centered approach of teaching and learning through innovative, rigorous, and collaborative experiences, and promote health and well-being of diverse populations across the lifespan. Students develop lifelong leadership skills through applied learning, community service, and professional partnerships.
