The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) — the premier professional association for understanding and strengthening families through interdisciplinary research, theory, and practice — is seeking a paid Education Department intern to contribute to the advancement of department projects.

NCFR seeks to fill the Education Department intern position starting on June 3, 2019, for 10 hours per week for the summer, with potential for extension. This position is on site at the NCFR office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Responsibilities, qualifications, and a description of the required application materials follow.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and update the Family Science Degree Programs Guide
  • Revise CFLE-approved program information in the NCFR database, the NCFR website, and SharePoint
  • Organize and track NCFR archives, including policy documents, copyright forms, and other historical documents
  • Upload and organize digitized NCFR conference audio and video 
  • Update legislator contact information to disseminate policy briefs
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. Pursuing a degree in a Family Science-related field; understands research methodology, policy, and Family Life Education
  2. Demonstrated ability to investigate and solve practical problems
  3. Works according to schedule; keeps commitments; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines; notifies affected parties of delays or problems
  4. Proven project management skills with the ability to initiate and execute projects from start to finish
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  6. Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and dependability
  7. Ability to maintain a positive team-player attitude, remain calm and professional under pressure, work collaboratively and independently with diverse individuals, and resolve conflicts constructively
  8. An understanding of database software or the ability to learn
  9. Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications
  10. An understanding of basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current membership in the National Council on Family Relations
  • Interest in becoming a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE)

Hours

10 hours per week starting June 3, 2019. NCFR office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. CT. The intern can choose their schedule, but Mondays and/or Fridays are preferred.
