Teaching Professor - Open Rank

The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, 48-week position, rank open, in their currently developing World Campus Masters of Social Work (MSW program). This successful application will serve as the program's Field Director. The position includes both teaching and field coordination. The applicant will also participate in the design of the MSW program.

We are specifically seeking applicants with expertise in Applied/Professional/Direct Human Services, including but not limited to social work/counseling, community-based education, human service programs, and adult development and aging, including but not limited to adult development and aging in the context of families, social relationships, neighborhoods and communities, and the larger cultural context. Specific competencies critical to success include excellent verbal and written communication skills, a team-oriented collaborative approach, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students and students from diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of innovative, best practices in pedagogy.

The Field Director will be responsible for developing and administering the social work field education program and participating in the development of the broader MSW curriculum. Knowledge of social work curricula and how field instruction is integrated into the curriculum of a CSWE accredited program is essential. Specific responsibilities include identifying and recruiting field placement sites and instructors; developing and reviewing policies, procedures, and objectives for field placement; and monitoring placed students and coordinating with field instructors as needed. Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing an integrative field seminar; assigning final grades for students in field education; participating in the CSWE accreditation process; developing and providing internship training experiences to agency field supervisors; and teaching social work courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Full-time instructor load is three courses/sections per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer), with no more than nine courses/sections annually. Semester teaching load, however, will be determined in balance with other assignments related to strategic efforts to develop and sustain the MSW program, which could include development of new courses, developing and/or adapting new approaches to existing web-based courses, and service related to the growth and development of the MSW program.

Position requires a MSW degree (DSW preferred) from a CSWE accredited program, at least three years post MSW degree direct social work practice experience, a social work license (LCSW), and 3 years of supervision experience of MSW students.
