Teaching Professor, Open Rank Specialization in Mental Health and Substance Abuse

The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time, 48-week position, rank open, in their currently developing World Campus (Online) Masters in Social Work (MSW) program. The successful applicant will serve as the program's lead for its Mental Health and Substance Abuse specialization area.

We are specifically seeking applicants with expertise in clinical social work practice focused on mental health and substance abuse. Applicants must have an MSW and at least three years of clinical practice experience. Specific competencies critical to success include excellent verbal and written communication skills, a team-oriented collaborative approach, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students and students from diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of innovative, best practices in on-line teaching.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the Mental Health and Substance Abuse specialization area, including the development of the curriculum, course development, and course instruction. This program will be housed in the Human Development and Family Studies Department within the College of Health and Human Development and offered via Penn State's World Campus. Knowledge of social work curricula, experience with designing master's level social work courses, and on-line teaching experience is essential. Specific responsibilities include working with the MSW team to design curriculum, identify the needed courses for the specialization, integrate CSWE learning benchmarks into each course and participate in the CSWE accreditation process, and design and deliver MSW on-line courses.

Full-time Instructor load is three courses/sections per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer), with no more than nine courses/sections annually. Semester teaching load, however, will be determined in balance with other assignments related to strategic efforts to develop and sustain the MSW program, which could include development of new courses, developing and/or adapting new approaches to existing web-based courses, and service related to the growth and development of the MSW program.
