The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Family Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure track teaching position at the assistant rank in Child and Adolescent Development. Responsibilities begin mid-August 2019. The compensation level depends upon the education and experience of the appointee.

The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Family Sciences is comprised of seven full-time faculty members with a strong commitment to high quality teaching, service, and applied scholarship. There are approximately 160 majors working toward one of six bachelor’s degrees: Sociology, Sociology – with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Child and Adolescent Development, Dietetics, and Nutrition who are drawn to the department for its commitment to building a more just and caring society.

The department is seeking a Child Development expert with the ability to teach across the curriculum. Candidates with a terminal degree in Child Development, Sociology, Social Work, Education or a related field concentrating in human development across the lifespan and family systems are highly desirable. A commitment to excellent teaching at the undergraduate level in a Christian liberal arts context and possessing a potential for high quality scholarship and service are essential for a successful candidate

Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education. Desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and nontraditional courses (12 units per semester)
  • Advise students
  • Participate in departmental activities and governance
  • Serve on faculty committees and perform other normal faculty duties
  • Conduct scholarly research
  • Engage in off-campus community service
  • Commitment to working within, and supporting, a diverse environment
Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Child Development, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or in closely related field preferred. ABD or a master’s degree with significant experience will be considered.
  • Professional experience in Child/Adolescent Development and family systems, highly desired.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education. Desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
