The Department of Child and Family Studies at Southeast Missouri State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin either January or August 2025. We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise focuses on one or more of the following content areas in Family Science: family life education; family policy; and/or trauma and resiliency.

Primary Responsibilities

• The candidate will have a load equivalent to 12-credit hours per semester
• Teach undergraduate courses in Child Development and Family Studies
• Teach graduate courses for Trauma and Resiliency Studies Certificate
• Teach across multiple modalities to meet the diverse needs of our students
• Contribute to university shared governance through committee participation and other service
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students
• Provide professional service to the field
• Pursue and maintain active scholarship
• Recruitment and retention of students

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree or ABD (degree completed by start date) in the behavioral or social sciences (human development and family science, psychology, prevention science) or related field; Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to teach using multiple modalities (online, in-person, and/or hybrid)
• Evidence of teaching and mentoring effectiveness as demonstrated by creating an inclusive learning environment, employing innovative teaching practices, and/or mentoring underrepresented students
• Evidence of effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of Family Life Education content areas and the CFLE
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to teach courses related to Family Life Education or Trauma and Resiliency
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to advise and mentor undergraduate students
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to contribute to university, community, and professional service
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to pursue and maintain active scholarship
• Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community

Department Information:
The department has 9 full-time faculty and over 400 majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Child and Family Studies offers one associate’s degree in
Childcare and Guidance; three baccalaureate programs including Child Development, Family Studies, and Family and Consumer Sciences Education; and one graduate certificate in Trauma and Resiliency. The Department provides experiential and field-based programs, with faculty actively engaged in university and community programs. The department works closely with centers on and off campus to provide students with the experiential learning opportunities they crave.
