Twelve-month, tenure-track position at the University of Kentucky in the Department of Family Sciences with an anticipated distribution of effort of 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% service. This position would contribute toward the College strategic plan goal of producing “innovative solutions through multidisciplinary collaborations.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a nationally recognized program of research that includes external funding and published results in peer-reviewed journals; supervise theses and dissertations; participate in departmental and collegiate governance and professional organizations. Grant-writing experience is preferred.

Candidate must display a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, including strong interest in contributing to a student-centered environment that nurtures and challenges students to achieve at high levels; commitment to a systemic approach to family life; and a commitment to diversity. Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience is preferred. Courses will be determined based on expertise and department need.


By start date, earned Ph.D. in human development and family sciences or closely related field. The area of teaching and research expertise is open. A qualified applicant will have a commitment to the interdisciplinary nature of family sciences. Candidates with previous evidence of external support, mentorship of graduate and/or undergraduate students and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals are preferred.

Organization Summary

The Department of Family Sciences is a student-centered department in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment at the University of Kentucky. The department includes areas of specialization in family processes, adolescence, aging, couple and family therapy, and consumer economics and personal finance. There are approximately 150 undergraduate students, 20 M.S. students and 20 Ph.D. students. Additional information can be found at
