Assistant Professor of Practice: Coordinator of Field Activities in Applied Developmental Psychology, Department of Health and Human Development

Appointment: Eight-month, full-time, appointment-stream; Position starting Fall 2023

Description:
The Department of Health and Human Development in the University of Pittsburgh School of Education seeks a faculty member to coordinate field experiences in both the undergraduate and master’s programs in Applied Developmental Psychology (ADP). The ADP undergraduate and master’s programs are designed to prepare developmentally informed practitioners to work in a variety of child and youth community settings with sub-specialties in Child Life, behavioral health, infant mental health, and out-of-school learning.

The ADP field activities coordinator is responsible for taking the lead in recruitment and liaison work with community field sites, overseeing students’ field and internship activities, developing and monitoring field work activity logs and assessments, and conducting field observations. The ADP field coordinator will coordinate and assist with the development and implementation of affiliation agreements with sites as needed. In addition, the ADP field coordinator will work closely with the ADP undergraduate and master’s coordinators to ensure that field activities correspond with other instructional and programmatic activities and goals.

The ADP field coordinator will teach courses totaling 18 credits annually, across fall and spring semesters. This may include undergraduate and master’s practice seminars as well as classes in family dynamics, evidenced-based interventions, child and adolescent development, and the foundations of learning and educational psychology. In addition to teaching responsibilities, this position will coordinate all field activities including site development, liaison work, and oversight of students’ field placement activities.

This position aligns closely with the School of Education’s mission-vision and strategic goals and priorities, which lay out our “commitment to equity, justice, and innovation,” and emphasize the School’s cultural drivers, which include: Educational equity and justice; High-quality research and engaged partnerships; and Innovation and interdisciplinarity. The field coordinator will engage with the Department and School in efforts to refocus program offerings to center on learning “with and from communities” as we “commit to student, family, and community success.”

We welcome applications from faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in the appointment-stream. In addition to the primary position responsibilities outlined above, other responsibilities include academic advising, engaging in department meetings, serving on program planning teams, assisting with program activities and milestone events (e.g., Capstone Defense meetings), and supporting other activities at the program, department, and school levels. There will also be opportunities to engage in collaborative community engagement, scholarly work and research.

Qualifications

Required:
● Earned doctorate with scholarly training in one or more of the following disciplines or a related field: developmental psychology, educational psychology, human development, counseling psychology, school psychology, prevention science
● Experience in child and/or adolescent youth work
● Experience teaching relevant curricula
● Experience working with undergraduate and master’s students
