Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Family & Consumer Sciences
• Teach the following undergraduate and graduate courses including but not limited to:
o FCS 5250: Adolescents in Development
o FCS 5350: Communication Skills
o FCS 6410: Advance in Youth and Community Development
o FCS 6420: Building Capacity and Quality in Youth and Community Development
o FCS 5110: Kinship Care Family Members, Strengths and Challenges
o FCS 5120: Educational Systems and Kinship Care Families
o FCS 5140: Economic Realities and Kinship Care Families
o FCS 6570: Development Effective Programming for Kinship Care Family Members
• Maintain a scholarly line of inquiry leading to peer-reviewed publications and the presentation of scholarly work at professional conferences
• Pursue grant funding to support scholarly pursuits
• Collaborate with department faculty on curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Provide service to the department, college, university, community and professional organizations, including retention activities within the program and departmental areas.
• Doctoral degree in family science, human development or a closely related area. ABD with completion by August 2023 will be considered.
• Clear potential for research productivity and grant writing specific to family studies, youth and community development, and/or kinship care families
• Demonstrated strong teaching record in family science
• Certified Family Life Education (CFLE) or eligible within on year of hire
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations and community-based programs
In 1903, Western Michigan University was founded as a teacher training school on the west side of the state, becoming the fourth and last of Michigan’s normal schools. In addition, international student enrollment has increased by 11% this year. WMU has 250,000 living alumni worldwide.
