Roles at an NCFR Conference Session
Each NCFR conference session has a presenter(s), but there might be a few other people around helping make sure the session goes as planned. Keep these roles in mind for your potential involvement in future conferences, too!
Presider
- Serves as a time-keeper and keeps the session moving in a timely manner
- Gives a welcome to the session; introduces speakers
- Helps with Q&A / audience discussion if no facilitator is present
Discussant
- Gives five minutes-worth of "take-home" remarks about the presentation material, after the presentations have been given — how the papers are connected, issues for elaboration and discussion, etc.
- Provides implications of the research presented
- If no presider is present, the discussant also introduces the presenters
Facilitator
- Facilitates the post-presentation discussion / questions between the presenters and the audience
- Prepares questions about each paper in advance to aid discussion; limits discussion time
