About the Session
It's Either Too Simple or Way Too Complex: Applying Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Theory in Family Research
By Jonathan Tudge
Abstract(s)
Urie Bronfenbrenner’s theory, in one form or other, is well known in the field of Family Science. The overall goal of this session is first to bring that knowledge up to date and second to enable participants to understand better how to apply the theory in research.
Objectives
(1) To provide a brief overview of the main changes in the development of Bronfenbrenner’s theory from the 1970s to the 1990s. (2) To describe the theory’s four main concepts, showing how each of them can be simultaneously integrated into the research design. (3) The third, and most important, objective is to have participants (singly or in groups) design a project that incorporates each of the four major concepts, and then critically evaluate that project.
