Creating a Diverse Academic Environment
The Ethnic Minorities and Education & Enrichment sections. Panelists have an array of experiences such as: College Deans, Department Chairs, and Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty from various college across the country. 4 Key questions will be discussed: (1) What are the benefits of an ethnically diverse academic environment? (2) In your experiences what works (programs, recruitment strategies, etc.) when creating an ethnically diverse academic environment and what should not be repeated? (3) What are the challenges to creating an ethnically diverse academic environment? (How have you navigated such challenges?) (4) How do we move forward in support of more ethnically diverse academic environment? (What advice do you have for Student/ New professionals?)
Objectives
(1) To discuss how we can increase faculty diversity in our fields of study; (2) To create an open forum for mentorship in which the audience can ask more seasoned faculty professional questions; (3) To promote effective practices that supports a diverse faculty environment
