Studying vulnerable, protected, and hard to reach (e.g., youth, military, international, and prison) populations requires unique considerations for the ethical, logistical, and epistemological approach to research. This workshop—led by a panel of experts who have built their careers researching vulnerable and protected populations—will educate S/NPs on how to design and conduct studies that centers the obligation of putting research "to work" for the people and communities they study. The panel will begin with a preplanned Q&A led by a discussant (40 min) to introduce key considerations for research with vulnerable populations, followed by an audience Q&A.
Objectives:
(1) Designing and conducting studies that include vulnerable, protected, and hard to reach (e.g., youth, military, international, and prison) populations
(2) How to navigate IRB requirements and other ethical considerations for vulnerable, protected, and hard to reach populations
(3) Designing research that directly impacts the population(s) of study
