Abstract(s)

Work demands and resources influence individual well-being and family relationships (ten Brummelhuis & Bakker, 2012). Yet, less is known about how different contexts may shape work's influence on individuals' and families' well-being. This symposium showcases contemporary endeavors towards better understanding the influence of work on individual health and family relationships in early and middle adulthood. This symposium brings together a collection of four papers to discuss specific findings and implications across different racial groups and work contexts. At the end of paper presentations, we will discuss their theoretical and methodological contributions and future research directions.

Objectives

1. To advance our understanding about the influence of work on individual health and family relationships in early and middle adulthood. 2. To demonstrate how different contexts (e.g., race, work environment) shape work's influence on individuals' and families' well-being. 3. To generate scholarly discussions about challenges and opportunities for future research examining the role of work in individual and family well-being across different time scales.
