Abstract(s)
Research suggests that stressful marital experiences are a powerful predictor of loneliness in later adulthood, which has serious health consequences (Ayalon et al., 2013). Theories drawing from emotional/cognitive (de Jong Gierveld., 2009), relational (Bersheild & Amazzalorso, 2001), ecological (Bronfenbrenner, 1994), and life course (Elder & Giele, 2009) frameworks explain the longitudinal impact of stressful marital experiences on loneliness. However, to test these theories, advanced analytical approaches are needed to model multi-level and longitudinal hypotheses. This symposium illustrates cutting-edge extensions linking theories and analytical procedures using data from couples over 25 years.
Objectives
• To investigate the longtiduinal impact of stressful marital experiences on lonliness using a longitudinal dyadic dataset. • To eamine both couple-level and indivdiual-level associations beween stressful marital experiences and lonliness simultaneously.• To analyze longitudinal dyadic data using advanced quantitative methods.
