Poster Session 2: Chronic Health

Presenter: Biswadeep Dhar

Summary
The growing prevalence of overweight and obesity among low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is alarming because of associated cardiometabolic complications. In India, the prevalence of obesity has increased ten-fold within the last ten years. Shifts in dietary behaviors and other lifestyle habits may contribute to the recent global trends. To effectively respond to this issue, we must understand both the risk and protective factors associated with overweight, obesity, and cardiometabolic complications among LMIC populations. In the current study, we utilize data from the National Family Health Survey-4 to examine the role of diet, lifestyle, and socioeconomic status on cardiometabolic risk among adults living in India, a lower-middle income country. Results from this study have implications for prevention of overweight and obesity among the target populations

-- To examine the association betweenrisky lifestyle habits (smoking and alcohol consumption) and cardiometabolic risk.
-- To evaluate the relationship between sociodemographic and household characteristics and cardiometabolic risk.
