Summary
This study utilized in-depth interviews with college students in the U.S. (N = 29) and China (N = 32) to explore the cultural similarities and differences in emerging adult children's experience of parental overparenting. Rooted in the grounded theory approach, findings indicated more differences than similarities in parental overparenting behaviors across cultures. Chinese parents showed more evidence of overparenting in their children's daily life routines and in making major life decisions on behalf of their children. American parents were shown to be more overly involved in their emerging adult children's academics, social life, and finance. Cultural similarities were also found in emerging adult children's relational experience with their overparenting parents - a lack of emotional support from their parents and emotional dysregulation in their parents. The findings suggested that culturally sensitive parenting intervention may be developed to target different issues of overparenting across cultures.

Summary
Following the frameworks of social exchange theory and ecocultural theory, this investigation examined the relation between helicopter parenting and filial values and the effects of helicopter parenting on depression and self-esteem. A total of 473 Chinese emerging adults (M age= 19.69, SD = 1.62) participated in the study. Chinese emerging adults with high rates of helicopter parenting reported more responsibility, respect to parents, and care for parents (i.e., filial values). Results also indicated that helicopter parenting was indirectly related to depression and self-esteem via filial value, whereas there were no significant direct effects of helicopter parenting on depression and self-esteem. The findings underscore the importance of filial values on the association between helicopter parenting and psychological health outcomes.

Summary
Helicopter parenting influences the mental and physical health of emerging adults. Recently, interest in the role played by paternal helicopter parenting in children’ well-being has been increasing. This study examined the association between maternal or paternal helicopter parenting and college students’ mental and physical health in terms of the mother- or father-child relationship, using a cross-national comparison between the U.S. and Korea. We adopted a multi-group structural equation analysis of data from 607 college students (243 American students and 364 Korean students). The results of this study were as follows: negative associations were found between paternal helicopter parenting and college students’ depressive symptoms via the father-child relationship in both the U.S. and Korea, and positive association were found between paternal helicopter parenting and students’ physical health via the father-child relationship in the U.S. The findings could shed light on the salience of paternal parenting for college students’ well-being.

Summary
The years spent at university are crucial for students to build and develop their financial knowledge, attitude, and behaviors to be able to manage money on their own. We analyzed the data collected through an online survey administered to a volunteer sample of 1,000 Japanese university students in 2020, with the framework of the family financial socialization theory. The covariance structure analysis showed that “direct parenting teaching” had a significantly positive effect on both “financial knowledge” and “financial attitude” and that “financial knowledge” and “financial attitude” had significantly positive effects on “financial behavior.” Our research could add a Japanese perspective to the growing body of research in this. The results also suggest the need of research to examine the tangible contents of the process through which children are financially socialized in families.
