Call for Authors: Deadline Extended to June 7

Wisdom for Parents: Key Ideas from Parent Educators, 2nd Edition

National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) is publishing the second edition of Wisdom for Parents: Key Ideas from Parent Educators with Elizabeth Ramsey, Ph.D., CFLE, as the new editor.

You are invited to share your personal and professional parenting insights, experiences, and research-based information in the 2nd edition of Wisdom for Parents: Key Ideas from Parent Educators.

The first edition, edited by Drs. Robert Keim, CFLE, and Arminta Jacobson, CFLE, provides a useful combination of research-based information and personal insights from professional parenting educators, most of whom are Certified Family Life Educators (CFLE). The authors share their professional and personal experience, stories, and poems that emphasize character building, parent-child relationships, guidance, and discipline. Since its initial publication in 2011, Wisdom for Parents has been used as a parenting education resource by Family Life Educators, including parenting educators, and faculty in higher education. The book is also a popular resource for parents.

Per Dr. Keim’s wishes, proceeds from the sale of the book have been used to support the CFLE Scholarship Fund.

Possible topics to submit include:

  • Adverse childhood experiences and/or trauma
  • Child predators/child trafficking
  • Social media, screentime, technology
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Mental health
  • Children and allowances
  • Parents as their child’s friend
  • Gender and sexuality
  • Substance misuse
  • Long lasting impact of pandemic isolation
  • Caregiving
  • Multigenerational families

Additional topics related to parenting will be considered.

See the following sample entries from the first edition that reflect the range of approaches to writing, from articles sharing the author’s personal experiences and perspectives, to articles supported by academic research.

When considering contributing to the second edition of Wisdom for Parents, it may be helpful to review the Table of Contents from the first edition as it provides a helpful overview of the type of topics addressed.

While preference will be given to current CFLEs, submissions from non-CFLEs will also be considered. Authors interested in contributing to the second edition of Wisdom for Parents should first review the Author Guidelines.

The deadline for submission of new entries has been extended to June 7, 2024. Please submit by email as a Word document attachment to: Elizabeth Ramsey ([email protected]) and Dawn Cassidy ([email protected]). Please let Elizabeth Ramsey and Dawn Cassidy know if you have any questions about the timeline.
