Call for Papers: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applications in Behavioral and Social Sciences

Journal of Child and Family Studies

The Journal of Child and Family Studies (JCFS) seeks manuscripts for a special issue on the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in behavioral and social sciences.

Due to a significant increase of available data and advances in AI and ML technology, these tools have been more frequently  used outside computer science, and into the area of social and behavioral sciences. Methods such as random forests, neural networks, and elastic net have been used to predict different conditions (e.g., autism, depression, suicide), increase the understanding of human development and functioning (e.g., parenting, romantic relationships, substance abuse), and more effectively manage the data for social and human services (e.g., child welfare).

The purpose of this special issue of JCFS is to provide a comprehensive examination of the state of the art applications of AI and ML pertaining to the well-being of children and families, and to spearhead interdisciplinary collaborations between scholars with different scientific backgrounds to find creative solutions to complex problems.

Potential contributors are invited to submit their papers by June 1, 2019. Any questions may be directed to guest editor and NCFR member Mihaela Robila, Ph.D., CFLE.
