Leah Cahan Schaefer, 92

passed away January 25, 2013

Dr. Leah Cahan Schaefer died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the age of 92. Leah was a pioneer in the field of gender and sexuality. She was a past President of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality and had been a member of NCFR since 1957. Her doctoral dissertation, and book, Women and Sex, was groundbreaking in its frank portrayal of female sexual experience. As a gender specialist in private practice in New York City, she shared her compassion and wisdom with thousands of individuals.

One of our staff members wrote about Leah in a past issue of NCFR Report magazine. You can still read the column, which includes bits from throughout Leah's life, from her career as a professional singer and recording artist to her transition into the family field.

Leah is survived by her husband, Thomas, and a grandson.
