NCFR recognizes Woosang Hwang for outstanding research proposal
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) is proud to recognize Woosang Hwang as the 2016 recipient of the Feldman Outstanding Research Proposal for Research in Family Policy award, which recognizes a graduate student or new professional who has demonstrated excellence in research and potential contribution to family policy studies, particularly in the areas of gender/women's issues or poverty.
Mr. Hwang is a doctoral candidate in human development and Family Science at the Syracuse University. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Yonsei University, South Korea. He is also received a Certificate of Advanced Study in Public Management and Policy at the Department of Public Administration, Syracuse University.
Mr. Hwang's primary research interests are low-fertility and aging-population issues. Specifically, he is interested in how the Family and Medical Leave Act affects second-birth intentions among dual-earner couples.
Within NCFR, Mr. Woosang Hwang was selected as a Feldman Travel Award recipient in 2015 and Issues in Aging Focus Group Award recipient in 2016. He is a member of several NCFR Sections.
In her letter nominating Mr. Hwang, Dr. Eunjoo Jung writes: "I am extremely impressed with his critical thinking skills, ability to synthesize materials, as well as methodological skills. … I am very confident that he will greatly contribute to the field of family policy and he has the potential for a very successful career."
Mr. Hwang will be recognized for his achievements at the 2016 NCFR Annual Conference, Nov. 2-5 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Harold and Margaret Feldman, the namesakes of this award, were pioneers in the field of family policy.
