The 2021 results of the annual Journal Citation Report, a standard measure for scientific journals, were released in late June for NCFR's 3 journals: Journal of Marriage and Family (JMF), Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science​ (FR), and Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR).

This measurement includes impact factors and a rank by subject category in the Social Sciences Citation Index maintained by Clarivate Analytics. The impact factor for a journal measures the frequency with which the average article in that journal was cited in a given year.

In 2020, Clarivate Analytics began using Early Access publication dates to determine the numerator portion of the impact factor calculation. Wiley, the publisher of NCFR's journals, predicted this new approach "may cause a temporary boost in Impact Factors" that is likely to fall in subsequent years. (Read Wiley's full explanation).

NCFR is pleased to see that although some of the Impact Factors in 2021 were lower than 2020, all 3 journals showed progress from 2019. Most notably, JMF improved its 2-year Impact Factor from 2020, and its rank in the journal categories of Family Studies (#3) and Sociology (#14). JFTR also improved upon its 5-year Impact Factor from 2020.

The tables below include the updated 2- and 5-year impact factors and subject category rankings. 2019 and 2020 figures are included for comparison.

* This journal was accepted for review in 2015 using the journal's 2013 and 2014 volumes. 2018 is the first year that a five-year impact factor is available.
