Public Comments Invited on Obesity Treatment Guideline for Children and Adolescents

The American Psychological Association (APA) seeks comments from the general public — including psychologists, health care professionals, researchers, clients/patients and their families — on its "Clinical Practice Guideline for the Behavioral Treatment of Obesity and Overweight in Children and Adolescents." Input from Family Science professionals can be helpful in providing a family perspective.

A draft of the document is available online and will remain open for comments until Nov. 5, 2017.

Comments will help guide APA as it works to produce the final version, anticipated to be submitted for approval as APA policy at its February 2018 meeting.

The intent of this guideline is to focus specifically on behavioral treatment for obesity and overweight in children and adolescents. It does not include other possible interventions, such as medication or surgery.
