The Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR), the premier scholarly outlet for Family Science theory, publishes original contributions in areas including advancing theories through critical and metatheoretical projects, and comprehensive reviews of literature and media.

The September 2019 issue (Volume 11, Issue 3) is now available for subscribers. It is a special issue entitled “Social Justice in Family Science: An Exploration of Race and Racism.”

In their introduction, guest editors Anthony G. James, Jr., Ph.D., CFLE, and Christi R. McGeorge, Ph.D., detail how NCFR has promoted dialogue on social justice in the discipline of Family Science through special sessions at the NCFR Annual Conference, commentary in NCFR Report, and scholarly articles in its peer-reviewed journals.

The goal for this special issue was to continue this momentum “by centering social justice within Family Science theory, research, and practice.” The guest editors go on to establish a conceptualization of social justice framework for Family Science, and each offer their own contrasting perspectives “regarding the role of individual actions versus the influence of racism in shaping societal trends.”
