Once a month, NCFR will round up resources from the United Nations (U.N.) relevant to family research.

Empowering Women in the Workplace

The 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61) took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, March 13-24, 2017. The theme was "Women's Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work." In his opening remarks, Secretary-General António Guterres noted, " With nearly a billion women entering the global economy in the next decade their empowerment will unleash the potential of all these women and girls - and they will lead the world to a new future." He further pledged that the U.N. will be at the forefront of achieving gender equality and asked the assembled leaders to "not let us off the hook. Keep our feet to the fire."

Positive Effects of Parental Education

The 2017 International Day of Families was observed at U.N. Headquarters on May 18, 2017. The theme was “Families, education and well-being.” Of particular note is the presentation Parental education and family well-being (PDF)  by Diego Barroso, Director of Family Enrichment Courses Coordination and Expansion of the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD).
