"When Trans people use a credit card with a name that doesn't match their appearance it can put them at risk." This is the inspiration stated in a video by Mastercard to promote its “True Name®” card feature which allows nonbinary and transgender customers to have their chosen name (as opposed to their legal birth name) appear on their credit card. As the video alludes to, transgender individuals are prone to receiving harassment, denial of services, and even physical attack when the name or gender on an ID doesn't match their physical appearance.

So while this week's video is indeed an ad for a credit card during Pride month, it's also an illustration of how transgender and nonbinary individuals face unique difficulties as they navigate their everyday lives.
