Psychologists in the late 70's introduced the term "imposter syndrome" to refer to high-achieving individuals who, nevertheless, felt inadequate or that their successes were out of luck and good fortunate, certainly not due to their innate intelligence, hard work, or perseverance. Despite tremendous progress over the past century, high-status professions and top leadership roles are still predominately held by White men. In only the past few decades have women and people of color started to climb corporate ladders and academic administration.
