Mississippi University for Women Forms NCFR Student Affiliate

The Mississippi University for Women (known as the "The W") has created an NCFR student affiliate, The W’s Council on Family Relations. This new affiliate will bring awareness of the discipline of Family Science in the campus community; serve the community through outreach programs; and provide professional development opportunities to students interested in working with individuals and their families. Membership is open to W students regardless of race, sex, religion, national origin, creed, color, age, disability or veteran status.

NCFR member Cecilia Brooks, Ph.D., is the student adviser. The student officers are Benjamin Little (president), April Johnson (president-elect), Nichol Torrey (secretary), Jeremiah Crawford (treasurer), and Alliya Jefferson (membership chair).

The student organization has met 4 times so far in 2023, including an informational meeting with representatives of the Mississippi State graduate school admissions department, and a service activity delivering children's beds to homes that need them in partnership with Dream Center Mississippi.

The W joins 21 other NCFR student affiliates in universities around the U.S. Interested in starting a new NCFR affiliate? See information and start-up forms for establishing a new state/regional or student affiliate. Email NCFR membership staff with questions or for information.
