/CFLE Network, Summer 2021

Writing Prompt for Fall 2021—Grief and Loss

This issue of CFLE Network will address grief associated with clear or ambiguous losses experienced by individuals of all ages as well as losses experienced by individuals or families and their members. Ambiguous loss refers to close friends or family members, both blood and fictive kin, being lost physically without verification of death; lost psychologically, as with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia; losses associated with COVID-19, such as missed family or school events, or missed opportunities that will not return such as attending funerals or annual events or visiting with friends; or, most recently, losses associated with the recent extremes in weather, such as reduced confidence in reliability of the power grid or availability of water or predictable weather (Boss & Tippett, 2020; Ambiguous Loss Resources; https://www.ncfr.org/resources/resource-collections/ambiguous-loss-reso…).

In about 250 to 500 words, please describe support services you provided or resources you offered to children, tweens, teens, or adults, individually or in groups, experiencing ambiguous or clear losses associated with COVID-19 or the recent extremes in weather. Please also describe their responses to the services you provided.

If you would like to engage in ongoing conversations about supporting individuals or families experiencing clear or ambiguous loss with other CFLEs who share your interest, please contact Dawn Cassidy, Director of Family Life Education, by email ([email protected]) and suggest clear or ambiguous loss as a topic for CFLE Conversations.

Please review Network author guidelines at https://bit.ly/3d5WzmR.
