Family science is a professional area of study focusing on the family. The underlying assumption of the profession is that the family is one of the most enduring of all social institutions and a basic unit in society. The more effective the family unit is in meeting the needs and goals of its members, the more society benefits from socially and emotionally healthy and productive citizens.

The program prepares students for professional careers in a variety of human service areas, including family services and youth programs, family life and parent education programs, business and government agencies, and leadership roles in church, school, and community. The program offers students a strong foundation for graduate work. Graduates of the program are eligible to receive provisional certification as a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE). The Anderson University Family Science program is certified by the National Council on Family Relations.

CFLE program approved discontinued effective 10/31/2023. CFLE coursework must be completed by 10/31/2023. Graduates may apply for CFLE through the CFLE-approved program process until 10/31/2025.
