Online collection of research data often is limited to cross-sectional and anonymous single-respondent surveys. Yet, there is a demonstrated need in Family Science research to gather and provide more rigorous and more useful data.

Some of the most cited empirical research papers from top Family Science journals mention in limitations and future directions the need for:

  1. longitudinal research (65 papers)
  2. a larger sample size (55 papers)
  3. randomized/experimental data (29 papers)
  4. dyadic methods to tell a more complete story of their research (19 papers)

Online survey tools provide plausible ways to address these limitations — if you know how to use all their features.

In this webinar, presenter Daniel Hubler, Ph.D., CFLE, will show you how to set up survey tools that help researchers collect online data over multiple time points and within groups (e.g., paired cases/dyadic data).

You’ll also learn about randomization tools that provide a means for random assignment in a study. In experiments, random assignment to treatment and control groups helps to provide a more valid result.

What Attendees Said After Participating in This Webinar:

"The webinar was extremely helpful as I prepare my dissertation study associated with dyadic data. I really appreciated the step-by-step visual approach to this presentation."

"This webinar was very helpful and I plan to watch it several times as I work in Qualtrics to utilize the options available for dyadic longitudinal research."

"Thank you! This was very informative, helpful, and exciting to learn!"

Webinar Objectives

By attending this webinar, you’ll learn to:

  1. look for and use options within your survey platform that provide a means for collecting confidential longitudinal and dyadic data;
  2. look for and use email triggers and other survey features that provide a means for pairing data between partners in dyads (or other groups); and
  3. identify the use of randomization features within online surveys to provide a platform for online experimental data collection.

Dr. Hubler will provide brief demonstrations using Qualtrics.

Approved for 2 CFLE contact hours of continuing education credit.

Intended Audiences:

  • Student and professional social science researchers who use online tools for data collection
  • Researchers who are interested in learning more advanced research skills using Qualtrics

Prior Knowledge Required: While it is not required to see how these options can help with research, participants will ideally have a basic knowledge of how the Qualtrics platform operates.

No software required.

About the Presenter

Daniel Hubler, Ph.D., CFLE, is an assistant professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies at Weber State University. He specializes in dyadic research, and more specifically enjoys developing and testing new methods of online data collection that assess family relationships
