The Child and Family Studies (CFS) program at Baylor University focuses on the development of individuals and families as they grow and change. Students in this major study the dynamics of the life span (prenatal through late adulthood).

The program is designed to prepare students for two specific careers: a Child Life Specialist or a Certified Family Life Educator. Child Life Specialists are pediatric health care professionals who work with children and families in hospitals and other settings to help them cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness and disability. A Certified Family Life Educator typically specializes in a specific area, such as marriage counseling or parenting education. As a part of both degree programs, students are required to complete a summer practicum. Similar to an internship, a practicum is a specific program designed to give students hands-on experience and prepare them for careers as Child Life Specialists.

Graduates from the Child and Family Studies program often find career opportunities in hospitals, clinics, adoption agencies, youth ministries, family planning centers, social services, youth correctional facilities or as teachers.
