A partial shutdown of the U.S. federal government is now into it's fourth week with 800,000 employees either furloughed or working without pay.

Fortunately, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and most of the Department of Health and Human Services are operational, accepting proposals, and awarding grants. The FY2019 budget for NIH was funded in September 2018, so it is not affected by the shutdown. 

The most notable effect for social scientists is that the offices of the National Science Foundation (NSF) are among those shut down. NSF proposal and review platforms, FastLane, Research.gov, and Grants.gov will continue to be operational, however, proposals will not be processed until normal operations resume. With the exception of the 2020 Census, the Census Bureau is also effected by the shutdown. 

Researchers are encouraged to visit specific agency websites for the latest information on the partial shutdown and its impacts on funding agencies.
