The Program Director for the Master of Social Work (MSW) in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware is responsible for developing and coordinating a new academic program to prepare professional social workers to work with individuals, families, communities, schools, and NGOs to address disparities, issues of social justice, and systemic racism among the many communities in Delaware and mid-Atlantic region. The College currently offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services with concentrations in Pre-Social Work/Counseling, Family and Community Services, and Early Childhood Development. Building on our long history of offering high-quality professional preparation programs and addressing the needs of local and national communities for high-performing professionals, the College recently received funding and launched an initiative to develop an accredited MSW program at the University of Delaware.

The Program Director provides visionary leadership to the planning, development, and if approved, the operation of the MSW program through bringing new collaborations, supporting the growth of the MSW program, guiding the accreditation process, and leading the program in its efforts to continue to enhance the quality of its research, instruction, and partnerships with those in underserved communities and the organizations that support these communities as it relates to the field of social work. The Program Director is responsible for program development, academic leadership, and nurturing faculty growth and development while creating a collegial environment.


•Oversee all aspects of the development of the University of Delaware’s MSW program.
•Collaborate with funders, advisors, and a development team.
•Develop all aspects of a MSW program at UD - including accreditation, curriculum, staff, field placements, and recruitment.
•Direct and support needs assessments and market studies related to development.
•Establish and maintain all requirements for accreditation established by CSWE.
•Collaborate with partners to complete and submit grant and funding proposals and updates.
•Present development updates to funders and interested parties as requested and required.
•Maintain shared partnership documents and processes.
•Oversee processes related to marketing, recruitment, selection, and placement for those enrolled in the MSW program.
•Engage in program evaluation, data collection, and identify areas for continuous growth and improvement.
•Organize and provide leadership for governance meetings.
Implement professional learning and training sessions as required.
•Develop new partnerships with communities throughout Delaware.
•Collaborate with Institutes of Higher Ed (IHEs), LEAs, DDOE, and other interest groups to continue the work of social work to improve pathways to preparation and to diversify the social work workforce.
•Develop a hiring plan and hire, oversee, and evaluate staff and instructors (if applicable).
•Develop a plan for induction support for MSW program graduates (and eventually, oversee the processes-support provided to first-year graduates of UD’s MSW program).
•Complete other job-related duties as assigned.


•Master's degree in social work (MSW) and five years in a setting and/or organization directly related to the job responsibilities. Doctorate (DSW) preferred.
•Holds license for clinical social work (LCSW).
•Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with key stakeholders and community members.
•Knowledge of current best practices in clinical social work preparation.
•Demonstrated record of addressing systemic racism and advancing equity and co-constructing a climate of inclusion and sense of belonging among students, faculty, and staff.
•Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and the education community and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
•Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
•Committed to fostering a workplace culture of belonging, where diversity is celebrated, and equity is a core value.
•Ability to work independently, be flexible, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, attend to details, complete tasks accurately, and work with deadlines.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
•Ability to solve problems, be resourceful, and design effective policies and procedures.
•Has knowledge of technology, such as Excel, Access, learning management systems, and video processing.
•A record of applying for and receiving external funding for program innovations and expansion is preferred.
•Experience with innovation in academic programs, scholarship, outreach, and engagement is also preferred.
•Teaching experience and/or working in a university setting is preferred.
