The University of Northern Iowa's School of Applied Human Sciences seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in Family Services, starting in August 2023, with a passion for teaching and an excitement to collaborate with colleagues. UNI's Family Services program is recognized by the National Council on Family Relations as a Certified Family Life Educator program. Family Services is a multidisciplinary program, emphasizing different perspectives of family life, human development, and policy. The Family Services program focuses on the dynamic nature of both family and individual development, and the services necessary for healthy family functioning.
Responsibilities Include:
-A commitment to creating engaged learning environment for undergraduate students
-Active engagement with Family Services majors through advising, teaching and mentorship -A research program through which the candidate contributes to the field of family sciences and to educational opportunities for students
-Collaborative engagement through service in the School of Applied Human Sciences and campus committees
-Engagement with community or professional associations through research and service opportunities

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Family Studies or related field. ABDs are welcome to apply with an expected degree completion date by August 1, 2023.
Required qualifications include:
-A demonstrated experience and/or ability in teaching a broad spectrum of courses in family studies and lifespan development, area of expertise is open
-Oral and written communication skills which are effective and appropriate for the audience with which the candidate is communicating
-A demonstrated ability to develop a research program and disseminate results through scholarly publications and presentations at professional conferences

Preference will be given to candidates with:
-A demonstrated excellence in college teaching with varied course delivery modalities (e.g., hybrid, online, face to face) in broad areas of the family services curriculum
-Experience and interest in teaching courses that utilize community partners to create meaningful student engagement
-Experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with community-based non-profit agencies and other systems impacting families
-A demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of family studies in community settings
-Experience with diverse populations through teaching, scholarship, and/or community engagement
-Certified Family Life Educator or willingness to obtain certification
