Partnering With Undocumented Immigrant Families for Health and Justice
Presented by: Colleen Vesely, Bethany L. Letiecq, Rachael Goodman, Marlene Marquez, Krishna Levya
Community-based participatory and action research approaches are critical when working with marginalized communities to promote family health and well-being. This symposium will provide exemplars of community-based research with diverse communities, including undocumented immigrant women from Central America, underserved veteran couples coping with trauma, low-income Hispanic families at-risk for obesity, and families with adults with developmental disabilities. The panelists will: (1) illustrate the strategies utilized to build community-university partnerships to inform culturally and contextually responsive intervention efforts, and (2) provide a discussion of the challenges and promises of community engagement for family health and resilience.
