Abstract(s)

The purpose of this symposium is three-fold. First, we provide a brief description of the demographics of the transgender and gender nonconforming population in the U.S. and the heightened vulnerabilities for these individuals and families; second, we provide a review of three areas of emerging policy initiatives across the lifecourse that reflect challenges for transgender elementary school children, secondary education youth, and adults and their health and well-being; and third, we discuss these policies from a family-centered impact analysis of these legislative arenas.

Objectives

(1) To describe heightened vulnerabilities experienced by transgender and gender nonconforming individuals and their families (2) To review three policy areas that reflect challenges for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals across the lifecourse (3) To conduct family health impact analyses (FHIA) of these policy areas
