About the Session
Poster Session 3: Poverty
Presenters: Jaime Ballard, Catherine Solheim
Summary
Current theories of poverty are based on individuals, and adaptations are needed to base theories on the family. Participants in this workshop will develop a family framework parenting, traumatic stress, and financial strain. Facilitators will use case scenarios and multimedia to discuss the impact of poverty theory on policy, the absence of family theories, and the significant variables relating to the developing framework of parenting, financial strain, and trauma. In small group discussions, participants will describe the dimensions of these variables, as well as the relationship of these variables to each other. A family-based framework of financial strain will provide a foundation for research to support improved, family-based policies.
