Member News: Susan L. Brown Named Distinguished Research Professor

Susan L. Brown
  • Susan L. Brown, Ph. D., has been named a distinguished research professor of sociology at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) where she has served since 1998. She was appointed as chair of sociology in 2013, and is the co-director of the National Center for Family and Marriage Research at BGSU. Dr. Brown is a frequent author in the Journal of Marriage and Family, where she has served as an editorial board member since 2010. She is recognized as a top family scholar and her research is widely cited. Read the full announcement.

  • Susan K. Walker, Ph.D., and Seonghee Hong, doctoral student, will receive the Family & Consumer Sciences Research Journal Best Paper Award in Family and Consumer Sciences Education for 2017. The award will be presented at the Annual Conference of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) in June. Read the full announcement.

  • J. Kale Monk, Ph.D., CFLE was selected to receive the Steve Duck New Scholar Award from the International Association for Relationship Research in support of his research on personal relationships. Kale was nominated by colleagues in January and will receive the award at the bi-annual conference in Fort Collins, Colorado in July.

  • Fiorella Carlos Chavez, was selected for a two-year post-doctoral position at the Department of Human Development and Family Science at the University of Missouri beginning in the fall. Chavez is currently completing her Ph.D. in Human Sciences-Family Relations at Florida State University.
