U.S. Teens Report Too Much Screen Time and are Cutting Back

Parents Less Concerned About Their Own Tech Use

More than half of U.S. teens (54%) report that they spend too much time on their cell phones and have taken steps to cut back on their screen time and use of social media and video games, according to studies from the Pew Research Center.

Parents are also increasingly concerned about the effects of screen time on their children, but less concerned about their own use. 36% of parents report that they spend too much time on their cell phone, but 51% of teens say their parent or caregiver is often distracted by their devices when trying to have a conversation with them.

On a related note, the New York Times recently published a family tech guide that gives specific advice on screen time and overall use of technology for kids age 2 to 18.
