About the Session

202: AFS/EE Section Resource Exchange Roundtables - (Conference Attendance Credit: #1 hr)

Concurrent Sessions 4

Presenters: Jody Russon, Suzanne Levy, Guy Diamond

Summary
Dissemination of empirically-supported treatments (EST) into real world clinical settings has presented challenges for program developers, providers and policymakers. Most efforts have focused on training therapists in community mental health agencies where the vagaries of funding, staffing, and resources hamper the adoption of these tested intervention technologies. One possible solution is to begin formal training of ESTs during graduate education. To explore this solution, the purpose of this roundtable is twofold. First, using attachment-based family therapy (ABFT) as an example, the presenters will provide information on one series of dissemination methods to bridge the research-practice gap in clinical education. Second, the presenters will engage participants in open discussions about the feasibility of using the ABFT program in graduate education.

Objectives
-- To summarize the purpose of disseminating ESTs to student learners in graduate education.
-- To describe one series of methods intended to disseminate an empirically-supported approach in educational settings.
-- To practice generating barriers and facilitators associated with the implementation of ESTs in graduate education.
